Tax Exemptions - Do I Qualify?
With the upcoming Fiscal Year 2024 “actual” tax bills being issued the end of December you may need to ask:
“DO I QUALIFY FOR A REAL ESTATE TAX EXEMPTION?”
While taxes cannot be avoided, some taxpayers may be entitled to partial relief via a “real estate tax exemption.”
Persons who may qualify for exemptions include disabled veterans, blind persons, surviving spouses, and seniors 70+ who income qualify.
Applications must be received no later than April 1, 2024 in order to be applied to the FY24 real estate taxes.

The Assessors’ office is committed to maintaining an assessment system that develops fair and equitable values for all classes of property. The Assessors are required by Massachusetts law to list and value all real and personal property within the town.
The Assessors answer questions regarding real estate and personal property valuations and have the authority to grant Real Estate and Personal Property abatements when warranted.
The Assessors also have the responsibility for motor vehicle excise tax bills. The bill information originates from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and is sent to all cities and towns across the state at various times throughout the year to create motor vehicle excise tax commitments. The excise tax bill is sent to you from the city or town that the Registry of Motor Vehicles has in their records as the place of garaging. The excise tax bill is also sent to the address that is within the Registry records, which is the last address that you provided to them. Assessors answer questions regarding the motor vehicle excise tax and have the authority to grant abatements when warranted.
The Assessors’ office has a variety of information available to the public. Assessors’ maps, property record cards, and assessment values can be found in the office. The office also processes deeds, and prepares certified abutters lists. The Assessors' maps and property record cards are also available available on-line at the link to our GIS mapping system below.
