Options for 2024 Nomination Papers OR anyone submitting petitions to be Certified:

  TO DROP OFF NOMINATION PAPERS OR PETITIONS 

 

1. Call the office 978-355-2504 Ext 5 and/or email clerk@townofbarre.com to arrange for a time to drop off the Nomination papers in person.

 OR      

 2. Mail - mail nomination papers if the deadline is not approaching (allow at least 10 days) to:

Include a pre-stamped and pre-addressed envelope so we can return a receipt for papers back to you.  We advise candidates to use some sort of tracking service if they are mailing their papers so they can ensure timely delivery.

Be sure to also call 978-355-2504 ext 5 and/or email clerk@townofbarre.com stating you have mailed your papers back.

  

3. Drop Box - Utilize the Large Blue Secure Ballot drop, locked box located to the right of the outdoor stairs.  Be sure to also call 978-355-2504 ext 5 and/or email clerk@townofbarre.com stating you have left papers in the box.

 Please be sure to put them in an envelope with your contact information including your name, phone number, e-mail address and mailing address and clearly mark ATTENTION TOWN CLERK - TIME SENSATIVE - NOMINATION PAPERS ENCLOSED.    A receipt will be sent to you.

 

FOR THE SEPTEMBER 3RD STATE PRIMARY ELECTION AND THE NOVEMBER 5TH 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS 

THE PRECINCTS WILL BE OPEN FROM 7AM TO 8PM FOR IN PERSON VOTING.

 

FOR THE APRIL 1, 2024 ANNUAL TOWN ELECTION

 THE PRECINCTS WILL BE OPEN FROM 8AM TO 8PM FOR IN PERSON VOTING.

THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR A VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT FOR THE APRIL 1ST 2024 ANNUAL TOWN  ELECTION WILL BE ON MONDAY, MARCH 25TH AT 5PM (THE TOWN CLERK'S OFFICE WILL BE OPEN TO ACCEPT APPLICATIONS ON MARCH 25TH FROM 9AM TO 5PM).

 

THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR A VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT FOR THE SEPTEMBER 3RD PRIMARY ELECTION WILL BE ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 27TH AT 5PM (THE TOWN CLERK'S OFFICE WILL BE OPEN TO ACCEPT APPLICATIONS ON AUG. 27TH FROM 9AM TO 5PM).

 

THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR A VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT FOR THE NOVEMBER 5TH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION WILL BE ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29TH AT 5PM (THE TOWN CLERK'S OFFICE WILL BE OPEN TO ACCEPT APPLICATIONS ON OCT. 29TH FROM 9AM TO 5PM).

VOTER REGISTRATION

The Deadline to Register to voter for:

 April 1st Annual Town Election is Friday, March 22nd at 5pm

            September 3rd State Primary Election is Saturday, August 24th at 5pm

            November 5th Presidential Election is Saturday, October 26th at 5pm

The Town Clerk's office will be open from 9am to 5pm on the above voter registration dates.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS 

To qualify for an absentee ballot, you must:

  • Be away from your city/town on Election Day; or
  • Have a disability that keeps you from voting at your polling place; or
  • Have a religious belief that prevents you from voting at your polling place on Election Day
  • Deadline to apply for an Absentee or vote by mail ballot is by 5pm five business days prior to election date.

 

You can fill out an absentee ballot application if:

  • You are a U.S. citizen residing overseas; or
  • You are on active military duty; or
  • You are currently incarcerated for a reason other than a felony conviction; or
  • You are requesting an emergency absentee ballot due to hospitalization.

Emergency Absentee Ballots 

If you have been admitted to a healthcare facility after noon on the last business day prior to the election , you may use the absentee ballot application to designate someone of your choice to deliver a ballot to you. The person you designate to deliver your ballot will need to bring the signed application to the Town Clerk's Office, pick up your absentee ballot, bring it to you, and return it back to the Town Clerk for you by the close of polls on Election Day. Emergency ballots may be requested up until the close of polls.

Military & Overseas Voters

If you are a U.S citizen residing out of the country or on active military duty, you may use the Federal Post Card Application or the Massachusetts Absentee Ballot Application to request your ballot. Vote by Mail Accommodations

If you have a disability that prevents you from marking a paper ballot independently, you may qualify to use the Accessible Vote by Mail system. Visit our Accessible Vote by Mail page for more information and to find an Accessible Vote by Mail Application.

VOTE BY MAIL BALLOTS CAN ALSO BE RETURNED IN PERSON AT THE TOWN CLERK'S OFFICE TUES/WED/THURS 9-4 OR BY PLACING THE SEALED VOTED BALLOT IN THE SECURE LARGE BLUE DROP BOX LOCATED TO THE RIGHT OF THE STAIRS OUTSIDE OF THE HENRY WOODS BUILDING LOCATED AT 40 WEST ST.  THE DROP BOX WILL BE AVAILABLE 24/7.

 

The test deck for the April 1, 2024, Annual Town Election is currently scheduled to be run on Wednesday, March 20, at 1pm. 

The test deck for the September 3, 2024, State Primary Election is currently scheduled to be run on Thursday, August 22 at 1pm. 

The test deck for the November 5, 2024 Presidential Election is currently scheduled to be run on Thursday, October 24 at 1pm. 

 

All test decks will be conducted in the Henry Woods Building, 40 West Street at Town Clerk’s Office.
