James M. Sabourin

 

Chief Sabourin began his career with the Barre Police Department in 2008.  He worked his way up the ranks from Part-Time Patrolman to Full-Time, graduating from the 2nd State Police Municipal Academy. He was promoted to Sergeant, Deputy Chief and subsequently Chief. He has served as a Field Training Officer, Firearms/TASER, and Use of Force instructor. Chief Sabourin believes strongly in community policing and the department is heavily engaged in community activities and events.

Prior to law enforcement, Chief Sabourin served nine years active-duty in the Marine Corps. While in the Marines, Chief Sabourin served as a Parachute Rigger, Primary Marksmanship Instructor, and Aircrew/Aerial Gunner aboard CH-53 helicopters. He served two tours of duty overseas and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Chief Sabourin is a dedicated life-long learner who is actively continuing his education and is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute, Command Officer Development Course, University of Louisville.
