Mattress Recycling Program
In the 3 years the Mattress Recycling Program had been in place in Barre at the Transfer Station, we have saved over 660 mattresses from the trash stream.
Unfortunately, the MassDEP grant ended January 31, 2019.
The Board of Health has continued a Mattress Recycling Program with a fee of $20 per mattress or box spring.
Mattresses that are deemed unsuitable for recycling (and therefore may not be sent to mattress recyclers) include:
• Excessively torn, punctured, soiled or moldy items
• Twisted or crushed mattresses or broken box springs
• Wet or frozen mattresses or box springs
• Mattresses or box springs infested with bed bugs or other pests
• Futon mattresses, fold-out sofa beds
• Mattress pads or toppers
• Infant sleeping pads; air or water beds; any other furniture or textiles
Mattress/boxsprings can be purchased online at this link. You can also come to the office to pay in cash or check only.
